Bird Feeder & Bird House Capacity
Any room at the inn? Hummingbirds
welcome!
The types of birds you want to attract should be
the first consideration when purchasing a bird feeder
or bird house. For feeding hummingbirds, bigger is
not necessarily better, and hummingbirds require
specific feeders. A hummingbird can drink approximately
two times it's body weight of water per day. Thus,
we recommend outdoor water fountains.
While hummingbirds are normally sociable, however,
earlier in the season, they will not share a bird
feeder. A two ounce feeder is more than enough if
you only see a hummingbird or two in your yard. For
areas that have multiples of hummingbirds, consider
a 16 ounce or larger feeder. Large quantities of
hummingbirds can often be found in the southwest.
No matter which size feeder you choose, make sure
it is cleaned frequently, and protected from inclement
weather. One way to know if your feeder needs cleaning
is if it is full of seed and the birds stop visiting.
Visit the bird feeder store for a selection of copper and glass hummingbird feeders. These are the best we've seen, both from an aesthetic point of view, as well as for the hummingbirds.
